Life in a time of corona: opera singers interview series

Divas & Scholars talks to singers in ‘lockdown’.

We are living through a strange and unsettling time which has reminded us of the fragility of life and plunged us into a potential economic catastrophe.  The immediate effect on opera is that all the theatres are dark, performances cancelled or postponed, singers and orchestras are out of work.  We won’t know the long term effect for a while, but if there is a recession there might not be enough money around to support the art form and audiences will be reluctant to buy tickets.  I’m interested to hear what singers are doing during this period, where they are and how they are making the best of it.

My first interview is with the star soprano Ermonela Jaho.
